Harissa Sauce | North African Spice Blend | 2 Minutes
Harissa is a north African spice blend with lots of different spices in there to really bring out lots of punchy flavours and then its blended with roast peppers and garlic, a little bit of tomato paste and some olive oil to give a really beautiful kick to any kind of dish, I like to have it on hand to add a real little flavourbomb to salads, sandwiches, but it's particularly good with roast meats and fish, so it's pretty straightforward.
The whole thing, once you put it in a blender takes about 2 minutes.
Originating in Tunisia, harissa has a rich history dating back centuries and has become a staple in North African and Middle Eastern cuisines.
The combination of spices and chili peppers gives harissa its distinctively bold, smoky flavour and it serves as a fantastic condiment and flavor enhancer in a variety of dishes.
It can be used as a marinade for meats, adding a fiery kick and depth of flavor when grilling or roasting.
Harissa is a wonderful accompaniment to roasted vegetables, adding a vibrant and spicy element to dishes like roasted cauliflower, carrots, or potatoes.
Whether you're seeking to add a spicy kick to your meals or elevate the flavors in your cooking, harissa is an excellent choice. Its history, bold flavors, and numerous applications make it a staple condiment worth exploring in your culinary adventures.

Harissa Recipe
5 good-sized roast peppers
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust according to your spice preference)
3 teaspoons ground cumin
3 teaspoons caraway
Garlic cloves
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
3/4 cup olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a blender or food processor, combine the roast peppers, chili flakes, ground cumin, caraway, garlic cloves, salt, and pepper.
Blend the ingredients until they form a nice puree.
Add the tomato paste and red wine vinegar to the puree. Mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and stir in the olive oil. The olive oil will help preserve the sauce and give it a smoother texture.
Taste the harissa sauce and adjust the seasoning or spiciness according to your preference. Add more chili flakes or spices if desired.
Once well combined, transfer the harissa sauce to jars and refrigerate.
The harissa sauce will last for about 3-4 weeks in the refrigerator.
